When I was playing with Jeeps at West Harptree a couple of weeks ago, one of the offroad instructors told me that a customer had got a discound of £12.5k off the £30k commander.
Apparently he traded in an early BMW x5 and paid just £7k on top.
Can this be right?

It is a matter of the cost to change.
The customer may have perceived that he paid £17.5k for the Jeep on the basis that the X5 was worth £10.5k and he paid an additional £7k. However the Jeep dealer may put the X5 on the forecourt at £18K in which case he has acheived nearer £25k for the Jeep.

The X5 was £44k new, are you sure you are not underestimating its trade-in value?

There are massive discounts to be had on all Jeep/Chrysler products at the moment and when they finally split with their German bankers there will be even more bargains(horrible vehicles) .

I love driving Jeeps at 50-60MPH on American freeways but I imagine they'd be horrible here. There's just no quality about them at all.
