I have a 2002 1.0 litre Corsa. Recently noticed that when clutch is depressed and engine running what sounds like a relay can beheard clicking off and/or on under the dash. It does this many times in a minute. Access is difficult and I cannot release lower trim panel under dash to gain better access. No function on car seems impaired. Any ideas of cause or how to gain access?

are you sure its a relay clicking, as there is not any relays that i can think of off the top of me head that is linked with the pedal, other than the clutch switch (similar to brake switch) i will have a look at a wiring diagram tommorow (time permitting) if the pedal is held down doe's the "relay" click, if so, can you not hold the pedal down with a piece of wood, mate etc and the look again/investigate

Ive heard of something similar where the imobiliser relay was clicking v rapidly on and off, it was an alarm / immobiliser fault, could be coincidence that you notice it with clutch is as you are nto turning the gears and the car is that slight bit quieter

Thanks topbloke and biggz for your help. I am fairly sure that this is a relay noise. It definitely only occurs with engine running or ignition on.It does not occur with engine stopped. The noise definitely appears to be from behind the instrument panel or triim. It would be great if I could "feel for the noise" but cannot remove lower trim. It is always easy when you know how but without manual at present all I can find is a couple of screws on bottom edge of trim. Iam sure that the noise is not a mechanically operated noise. Being intermittent doesn't help. I can also hear al loud one offclick from under steering wheel when key removed from ignition lock. This is perhaps part of security system but the noise is quite separate from the clicking I am hearing. Iam not sure oabout the clutch switch you talk about. What is this for?

the switch is linked into the engine management system, how ever it is not connected to a relay its straight to the ecu, it may be that the noise from relay ! can only be heard because the engine noise is less but what it is heaven only knows, be interested to know what it is when you find it

The only thing I can think of that is situated drivers side is the electric power steering system(if fitted). This may produce the noise you describe.
