Had a slight issue on my way back to uni tonight the rear silencer on my xantia decided to split down the seam completely. It is now of course very noisy.
2 questions
1) With it being bank holiday if i drive it tomorrow like that am i likely to get pulled over?
2) how much is replacement likely to cost?

It's unlikely the Police will pull you over unless the exhaust is dragging on the ground with bits falling from it.
I've never heard anyone of being pulled over because of this.

will be around £30 from the likes of gsf or eurocarparts. i really wouldn't worry about getting pulled if you did im sure they'd understand that you can't get a replacement due to bank holiday

Not wishing to turn this into yet another police bashing thread, if one's about and the exhaust is, as you say very noisy, then expect a word to be had in your shell like.
Plenty of tyre & exhaust centres are open over the bank holiday, btw.

poor lad's feeling a bit neuroitic having been pulled and fined by an unmarked traffic car
for doing a u turn on an otherwise empty road with a no u turn sign on it
