I'm trying to get some background information on a recent engine failure I experienced on a Nissan Navara (2004) Double Cab Pickup. The failure was catastrophic (a con rod let go and came through the side of the block).
I Understand it is quite a common failure. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks

Hi,
Surprised to hear that a japanese engine has 'let go' with such catastrophic effect.
1. How many miles has the engine done - this could rule out a manufacturing fault.
2. Has the vehicle been regularly serviced by an authorised Nissan dealer.
If the answeres are - low mileage and full service history by Nissan then you may ask the dealer to approach Nissan for a contribution towards replacement engine if it is fould to be a manufacturing fault.

Mentioned this to a colleague who has a mechanically identical Nissan Pathfinder.
Oil change interval is fixed at 18,000 miles. Plenty of scope for neglect there.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.

I thought my next car would be a Nissan!
Few days back some one complaint about Honda CR-V engine failure here.
What is happening to Japanese cars nowadays???
Or nowadays they fit a Renault engine in Nissan??
|
Honda replaced the engine, and the OP agreed to pay the labour of fitting. Excellent result given the engine was 4 or 5 years old, the cause of failure was unknown, and no-one had to go to court! www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=49962&...f

O yea,
my pals fathers pick up, 2004, 40K miles, full service history, same job, Number 3 cylinder conrod through the block and came off the crank shaft, engines well shod, but because it has just gone out of warranty the dealer he bought it from, new, is washing his hands of it, now 16K for 3 years and 40K miles aint value for money, especialy as he has looked after it well.
He has heard the block was made too light and this is very common, good if you do alot of mile and it craps out in the first 3 years, not if you cant get nowt and may have to cough uo 6000GBP for a new engine, SHOCKING STUFF< LIKE!
Rock the bad boys!

Lots of similar probs on the navara forum.
Might be worth a forum search there to see if anyone has come up with an alternative engine to fit these, for example could the patrol engine be grafted in?
|
also if they gulp a drop of water they tend to bend a conrod & failure follows shortly after.
