Have you tried Admiral?

Direct Line have always been the cheapest for me. Insurance is extremely expensive these days for young people i'm not surprised people dont bother to get insured. I can imagine that a small toyota would be cheap to insure for a 19 y/o.

Try Bell Direct / ecarinsurance / quinn direct.
Also investigate saving on insurance with pass plus.

As to choice of car, get a few quotes for different cars before buying.
Try and work out a model of car that young male drivers don't normally drive, I have found in the past that an unusual car for a certain type of driver can be cheaper to ensure, I paid less to insure a Renault 19 than it would have cost for the nova I had just scraped. I don't know but I think this is based on the insurance co's having lots of claims from nova owners but not so many from Renault 19 owners in that particular age group/gender/postcode.

Problem is no 19 year old would want to be seen dead in a mangy old Renault 19.

Trouble is, many do end up being seen dead - in a variety of cars :-(

Exactly what made it cheaper to insure, Bigger than a nova, faster, parts are more expensive, but no "street cred" so the insurance was cheaper.

Just going through this myself for my 17 yr old (thankfully a girl) but little brother won't be far behind.
Having started with confused.com to get an initial idea and worked from there.
On hj before recommendations for www.gsi-insurance.com/standardcar.php
Liverpool Vic

So far the best I've got is from the Prudential (now Churchill )

MoreThan give a 40% discount if you are willing to forego driving between 11pm and 6 am (might encourage immorality).
Some classic policies are available to under 25s.

Reduced sons insurance by a large amount by agreeing to insure mine with the same company when it becomes due - Admiral will take up to five cars I think, if registerd at the same address. Got a good quote from Quinn too.

My 18 year old son paid £1550 to in sure a Citroen AX. At the time I thought it was a bit steep. After a couple of months I now think it's a bargain!
incidently, not much more and he could have got fully comp albeit with a big excess.

Obviously they have have passed their test. Go the extra mile and take the extra lessons involved in the Pass Plus scheme. The cost of the lessons can be more than covered by the %age reduction offered on the insurance premium, I am told.
|
Direct line have always been cheaper for me for the past 4 years now despite my accident record.

Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)

When I passed I found a bonus accelerator scheme where for every 6 months of claim free time I would get a year's no claims bonus. Ended up moving on after just 6 months (as I changed cars and they weren't competitive) but with 1 years NCB which made a massive difference to the next quote. It was through a broker - absolutely no idea of the details I'm afraid though.

Companies good for young males:
- ecar insurance (Google it)
- Liverpool Victoria
- Quinn Direct
I am with Quinn this year, 21, 2 years NCB, £475 on a 1.9TD. About the cheapest I could get, I did hundreds of quotes.
When I was 20 and 1 year's NCB, I got a quote of £575 for a 1.25 Fiesta (Liv Vic), again not bad and the best quote I could get.
However, the first year when you have no NCB will ALWAYS be expensive. They figure that of you're going to crash, you'll do it in the first year.
Confused.com does not really seem good for the young male, they do not even check ecar, Quinn or Liverpool Victoria, or didn't the last time I checked.
Endsleigh is another good one for young males but you need to have had a licence for 2 years.
