Selenia 20K 10w 40 - 5 litres = £31.73 !!!!

I've googled "selenia 20K" and "Selenia 20K £31.73" and found some people claiming they think the oil is well worth the money, they can "feel" the car is better etc but beccomes sluggish after 8K miles!

I don't see how anyone can be so sensitive as to be able to tell any difference in the cars performance from using one oil from another.

As long as the oil passes API SL it should be ok.

I use Castrol Magnatec 10w 40. Who has any opinion on why I should spend more and use Selenia?

Buy the cheapest oil which conforms to the spec ( SL ) and viscosity (10w40 ) so long as it is from a reputable supplier and change it and the filter every 5k.All will be well and you motor will go to the moon and back!

I use the Selenia oil for my Alfa. I have changed oil and filter every 12k miles (I do more than 12k miles per year). The engine has always worked just fine and still does. The only oil leak is some weaping past a couple of gaskets to the outside. The engine has covered 144,000 miles.

I see no justification to change.

If you can afford it then that's fine, but you have nothing to scientifcally compare it against

e.g. 1000 cars filled with Selenia, 1000 cars filled with Castrol magnatec & 1000 cars filled with Joe's motor oil (SL spec).

Theoretically all cars serviced by Fiat dealers should have Selenia put in them, but I'm sure they have their fair share of cars which develop engine faults.

Absolutely. This is what most mere mortals will come up against. However, you would imagine that engine manufacturers have perhaps done the testing to give provenance to one type of oil over another. VW, for example, appear quite specific about some of their oils. Alfa and FIAT have specified Selenia for over ten years.

I'm not sure that affordability comes into it. I would much rather pay 25 or 30 pounds for 5 Litres of the specified oil than an unknown sum due to premature engine failure.

Interesting theory.

So the oil Ford recommend for the 1.1 ohv Fiesta/ Ka engine is ok at whatever price they charge for it?

Imo it is way too thin for the engine and imo the engines do suffer from premature wear (and noise) but it is way out of any warranty before it is evident !

I find Selenia 20k handy as it comes in 5lt.tins,exactly enough for my Coupe. It can be expensive to buy 4lts in Halfords etc.,then have to buy an extra litre at inflated prices.
