My (52) Espace had a service (fri 11th) at a dealer, who deals in many makes of cars, rather than just Renaults- service went well but that night a car going past set off the alarm system - I did normal checks doors and windows all shut nothing preventing closure and no obvious friendly animals. But it continued to go off- so had to leave it unlocked.
Took it to a MAIN Renault dealer (thurs 17), they looked at it charged me £75, but failed to rectify it, as I found out over the weekend.
A possible solution is a new box, currently unavailable even from Renault.
if they don't manage to rectify, what chance of getting the costs reimbursed- then have it taken out and a NEW system installed - any recommendations

It is unlikely that the service work had anything to do with the immobiliser problem. Renault security systems are well known for being very temperatmental - the electronics are pretty poor quality. I think the chances of cost reimbursement are nil.
I would aim to get the OE one removed and replaced with something like a Toad or Sigma (I believe they are different brands from the same UK company). I have never had a problem with a Toad (A606). You are looking at around the £300 installed. Try a local installer.

Before spending loadsa money just try a simple test which has been mentioned in the forum before. Close off all the cabin cooling/heating vents and put the system to recirculate. The thinking is that the pressure wave from passing vehicle can trigger the internal movement sensors in your car. May have no effect at all but could save you £???.

As AS says check the service techs have not interfered with any HV settings. Also worth checking for spiders etc lurking in the internal sensors - Xantia had a similar but problem (but random rather than related to passing vehicles) last autumn almost certainly due to concurrent Cranefly population explosion.

Hi wotspur ,was the service a standard service or work involving disturbing the bonnet switch. The reason is we had two scenics recently serviced plus cambelt change and the swiches for the alarm / immobiliser on both were missaligned to cause intermittent triggering. Its worth a carefull check before spending money. On both scenics the garage denied that they would have done anything to cause this problem, but after readjustment / alignment of these switches (very poor quality switches) the problem is now resolved.

Many thanks for all the responses - I had about 10 days of worry and not being able to lock it, several trips to the garage and independant alarm specialists -without a solution.
Then Thurs pm, whilst speaking to an alarm specialist, he was tinkering with the sensor catches, i removed all the dead leaves and rubbish around the outside of under the bonnet, where the filthy car that had been washed, and the deposits had been left, and hey presto, the bonnet which we now think hadn't been shutting properly, although it looked alright, was no longer being suctioned up by the passing of vehicles, and for the last 30 hours no alarm.
so that will teach me

wotspur,
pleased your problem is sorted .Iwonder how many other Renaults suffer from the dreaded bonnet swich sinario. If this switch was of better quality and alignment was not so critical then your and my situation would never occcur.

In you shoes I would be straight back to the dealer who charged you £75 and demand a full refund. Explain to them politely about how you cured the problem and would have expected them to do likewise.
