So, if I go to the garage and ask for 40 litres of FSI, they'll know what I'm on about, will they?

Then there is TFSI, which is Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection I think. Used in VW Golf and Jetta, a FSI petrol engine with both turbo and supercharger IIRC.

TFSI = 197bhp turbocharged Golf 2.0 engine. It is a turbo version of the standard FSI 2.0 found in Passat and Jetta.
TSI = 138/168bhp turbo and supercharged 1.4 engine.
FSI = standard petrol designation for engines with fuel stratified injection - basically common-rail petrol from what I've been told...
TDI = turbodiesel injection.

I recently sold my Audi A4 2.0 FSI. 150 bhp. Impressive fuel economy, I thought.

It's always amused me to see the 'i' tagged onto the diesel moniker. It started in response to those new-fangled petrol injected cars which would proudly proclaim the fact by adding an 'i' to the model badge.

Of course, diesel engines had been 'injected' for donkey's years prior to that!!
