I notice that in the specification you get the "Non-smoker package (Free)". Now, call me a cynic, but does that just mean they haven't put an ashtray in and are trying to make people feel good about it?

Audi has the same option. You get a sprung hinge lid over the 12v socket rather than a ligher and the ashtray is removed to provide a much more useful storage bin underneath the heater controls. From speaking to my local Audi dealer the majority of cars he sells have this option ticked. TBH most smokers flick ash out of the window anyway!

Even in the humble mk1 Focus you had to pay extra for a fag lighter and ashtray. Otherwise you got a "12v Power Outlet" (with a pull off cover that disappeared forever into the bowels of the seat mechanism the first time you dropped it) and a felt lined stowage tray.
Cheers

Been the same with Beemers for aeons. My last three had a Smokers kit fitted, it was a drop in insert in the ash tray and a lighter with a similar thing in the back.

You can also have no badges without paying them more too.
I expect if you asked nicely they'd let you have no car at all without being charged any extra.

I'm not surprised that lease co's put no-smoking clauses in their leases, it lowers the value of their cars (not just the fag burns, but the smell). I once bought (at auction) a rather nice 5-series. Opened the thing up and was knocked out by the smell of stale fags. It had been driven by a chain-smoking sales rep for Siemens. That really took some valeting, I can tell you. Used a few cans of 'nice pong' on it. Funny thing is that even the die hard smokers don't want to buy a car that smells of stale fag smoke.

just being nosey, did you have to clean the head lining and if so with what?

must make a note: "do not buy cars driven by sales reps for siemens "

I used to be a sales rep for Siemens, we had 1.6 cortinas but they were GL's, how times have changed!!!

>I used to be a sales rep for Siemens...
You weren't based in Middlesex, were you? A former colleague of mine was, and he told me of a new switchboard operator who had to be trained not to answer the phone, "Good morning, Siemens Staines."

I much prefer the story of the US computer company "Wang"
The american parent decided that the service arm would be called "Wang care"

In the early days of Asian industrial development a Mr Wong started a firm making coils and windings.
No one could ever work out why British business contacts sniggered when they saw the firm's central advertising slogan: 'Wound the Wong way'.

i can see the day when the boys in blue will be pulling people over and giving them a co (carbon monoxide) breath test to see if theyve been fag/driving

Interesting thread.
My father's Daihatsu has a multitude of cup holders, and one of them has a hinge-top ashtray in it. Came free with the car.
Off on a tangent, there are new laws afoot on this side prohibiting smoking in cars when there are kids under-16 in the car with you.
