thx for the replies
checked the clutch issue and all ok there
Screwloose have checked the hose you told me about i think iam looking at the correct bit cant see any spilts or leaks
i guess that its just wear and tear on the engine maybe
if i wanted to change the hose from the injection pump is it just a straight swop (something i could do ) or is it more complicated than that .
thanks again for all the help
take care tony

bellboy hi
i think its a cluch prob as well ,i remember reading somewere that a mondeo does suffer from this at somepoint , iam hoping to keep the car for a few more years, yet so it might be worth having the clutch changed , but still more than interested in the hose from the injection pump thing that was mentioned
any ideas
thanks again

If it was a short bit of soft rubber hose that attached to a gold tin-covered unit on the pump; then that was the one. If it's leaking, it's oily.
A drop in power is unlikely to be engine wear [not until 350,000] it could be that aneroid unit on the pump itself [the diaphragms split] or the timing solenoid or even complete failure of the control system; [these will still run.]
Take it to a diesel specialist; it shouldn't cost much to get the codes read and the fault investigated. You'll soon recoup the cost in better MPG.

I had the same problem on a MK2 Zetec Mondeo and solved the problem with the following:
Run the fuel tank until nearly empty then fill with 98 RON or better petrol - then add an injector cleaner. Give the vehicle a good blast at least 4,000RPM.
Rubbish fuel can cause issues with the 16v Zetec-E unit I would consider the above before you book in and pay for diagnostic work, either way all the best with the problem.

Hope it's not compression/ignition?
