mal you horrid little troll Lud (pp. MTC)
Lud, it is a garish looking car but then again that is only my opinion, but surely someone else on this site must agree before MTC (assuming he owns one) has a go at me alone. As fodder for the inevitable reply from MTC I confess that one of our cars is the previous shape Honda Civic which was thought by many to be one of the most boring looking cars but we love it.
I thought it was ugly at first. Now I think 'imposing' is the word... And MTC is so engagingly enthusiastic about his that I think there must be something in what he says.
It's fairly hard to find a car that isn't a bit garish these days, although 'obscene' is not a word I ever use about motor vehicles, unless they have been vandalised with inappropriate add-ons. I like them too much.
10 years ago ish there used to be a couple of VW Polos around North and NW london that had every panel a completely different colour...looked like they were made like it, but i might be wrong
not so sure about the obsence bit, but they were definitely garish
Nah WP they were made by VW to prove they had a sense of humour, perhaps it was more ironic than funny but they were certainly garish.
VW Polo Harlequin, and like most jesters most people did not find them remotely funny.
No, they weren't funny, but quirkily charming surely for someone else's daughter?
The Peugeot 407, a mouth about to eat you and a large overhanging nose.
Audi Q7 (?) seen a couple of days ago -the most garish and 'over-the-top' grille design I've ever seen.

"over-the-top' grille "
It's doesn't stop at the grille if you ask me....and no flunky it's not envy, If I wanted one I'd find the money.

Yup, and that VW of the same style (Ridiculously, pointless, big)
At least the Chrysler is relatively cheap -- and I have to say manages to look a lot more expensive than it is, in a vulgar American kind of way.
I have to say I thought it was a Bentley the first time I saw it (from a distance), so it achieves something, and no-one could accuse it of being dull.
It is individual in a way a mass-market Renault could never be. My only criticism is that it is a bit "fake bling", akin to a Chinese Rolex.
Talking of which, and while I wouldn't call it obscene, some recent French big-car efforts have smacked of indulgent arrogance, and wasting French tax-funded subsidies -- if I were French I'd be furious. Things like the Avantime and Vel Satis, ridiculous follies.
I've always liked the Avantime, one of the most distinctive car designs over the last few years. If it had had the correct badge on it, it would have probably sold far more than did. Having said that you'd have to be very brave to buy one, I would imagine the overall ownership experince / cost of spares would be a great deal less satisfying than having such a space age design on your drive.
Agreed D2. Of course I like the first Renault Twingo too which according to jase1 is a ripoff of a discarded Polish design.
Snigger.
Well D2* we agree on something at least.
The Aventime is simply stunning in looks and design. Every time I see one in metalic candy apple red or electric blue I still wonder why I havent sold the wife child and dog to get one.
Its one of theose hate it or love it cars tho. No middle ground with that one - Like the 300C.

Jase - you love korean cars. You are so not qualified to talk about matters of taste and style that your visa to be on this thread should be revoked!

1) I don't "love" Korean cars. I respect them as good quality, inexpensive transport, with mechanical and electrical integrity that your beloved French things can never hope to emulate. The two are not the same. If you can't see that, then I suspect it is you who should have your visa revoked as there is nothing as passe as believing hype....
2) The Twingo *is* based on a discarded Polish knock-off. Fact. If you like the design, I refer you to point (1).
3) Of course the Avantime is folly. If it weren't for French tax subsidies the project would never have got off the drawing board. All it will take is one hard-nosed right-wing politician in France and your "daring" designs will be a thing of the past. It's arrogance, not radicalism, face it.

Until quite recently, one used to go past my house practically every morning in the commuter traffic on its way to Bromley (I suppose) - South London for those who don't know this salubrious bit of the woods.

I wouldnn't dream of having a go at someone on here just because they don't like a particular car - its horses for courses and it would be an awful dull world if we all liked the same thing.
