East Croydon Railway Station Parking - Chris White
Hi

I need to drive to East Croydon railway station. Does anyone know if on street parking is free or if there is cheap 'safe' parking walking distance to the station?

Thanks, Chris.

Hi Chris

Never been but I'm about to this weekend and use the Q-park facility - you can get their details from the website, staying in a hotel close by and they have a discounted scheme, according to google map its pretty close. I've used Q-Park's facilities in manchester city centre for overnight parking on a number of occaisons and they are significanlty better than the usual concrete structures. Costs obviously vary by stay but £8.50 for 24 hours so not mega expensive.

However I will bow to local knowledge if these are no good / too far from the station.

Cheers

Paul

You really don't want to go there by car.

There is absolutely no free parking (unless a resident) for at least 2 miles, I guess, from the station. Croydon is a very unfriendly place for parking - it doesn't do cheap.

You could park your car for free near a station on the line a couple of stops away (North). Not Norwood Junction. Maybe Penge.

Free/easy parking near a railway station?

That way lies an 'Integrated Transport Policy'.

It will surely never happen.

One of my employer's offices is in Altyre Road across the tram lines from East Croydon station & I always park in the NCP behind Altyre Road at about £8 a day ... but then I'm not paying.

You will not get cheap or free parking in central Croydon, even the on street parking in the central area near to East Croydon is charged up to 11pm at night.

Altyre road is nearby as someone above advises.

If you go to Fairfield Halls on Park Lane there is a vast , I think NCP car park , entrance behind the halls which extends under the halls, Croydon College and over towards the station. No idea of the cost.

I have not been there recently but if you don't mind a 20 minute walk the nearest on road free parking used to be ( and it may have changed) on Duppas Hill Road at the end of the Croydon Flyover but it used to get filled pretty quickly in the working week with the local office workers .

Here are the maps of the controlled zones. Elsewhere, the web site is a catalogue of motoring unfriendly statements. If you want my advice don't go anywhere near the place - they even charge in the evenings so restaurants are losing business.

Avoid East Croydon generally, it's an awful place. Can you travel from one of the other Thameslink stations?

Thanks for all the advice. I live in Eastbourne and I'm just trying to get as close to London Victoria station by driving.

Not that I don't want to use public transport (there's usually a direct train to London Victoria from Eastbourne). I could usually do the journey quicker using my car for a large part of the journey.

I was thinking East Croydon because the last train back there form London is 2AM. The last train back to Eastbourne from London is midnight.

Did the journey last night and the last train back to Eastbourne left London at midnight and got into Eastbourne just before 2AM because it went to Brighton first........!?!?

Or look at this Saturday, you want to get from London to Eastbourne the journey's going to take about 2hr 30min because you get the train from London to Three Bridges, bus to Lewes and then train again from Lewes to Eastbourne.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to use public transport, because it should be easier and I can enjoy a few drinks when I go to London for a night out but using my car is quicker and more convienient.

If only I could find somewhere cheap or free to park close to a mainline station as close to London as possible.................

Why not Three Bridges? I've done this before. There are streets nearby in which you can park free (and they are not so busy that you would inconvenience residents, either.) Don't think the car park is that expensive either.

If you want late trains and want to drive part way, why not park at Gatwick (long term) for the day.

If you really want to drive to East Croydon, there is a NCP off Wellesley Grove less than 5 minutes from the station. You need to watch the one-way systems though, not ideal for those unfamiliar with the place.
