Roof bars - mattr
Dear all

Has anyone got any recommendations for reasonably priced roof bars? I had a look in Halfords at the weekend and their seem expensive - £70 for the bars and £20 for a fitting kit.
Are any other manufacturer/suppliers better value?

Thanks

Try ebay. I obtained some roof bars to fix to my roof rails for under £40 including postage. Sometimes you can find OE sets for sale secondhand - you may be lucky.

I agree. Very often OE for sale but the original prices are often very expensive
Assuming it is for a saloon.
If you consider Thule secondhand , the best known non OE, there are two basic types
Thule traditional - Square bars that overlap the feet
Thule Rapid (from 1988- ) with streamlined feet.
Have a look at their site and try to deduce what vehicles share the same fixing kit.
lots of detailed illustrations.

e.g. Earlier Astra is the same as Sierra Sapphire.

The traditional version comes in three packs - Bars, Feet and fixing kit
There is a possibility of buying a set for another vehicle and then buying the adaptor kit.

I was very lucky. Thule set for Five Pounds & 50p.

Try asking on your local Freecycle - someone may have some sitting unused and want the space. On www.wooo.co.uk they seem to be about £45 when they appear.

Try looking at www.roofracks.co.uk The company is based near Sevenoaks, Kent and I have used them a few times. Prices seem good and they also took back my old bars in part exchange when I bought my new car. They also do rentals so I guess they keep the part exes for that.

They do nationwide delivery, but I can't comment on that as I live not to far from them and have visited them in person. The guy that dealt with me said that most of their business is done by internet now.

Also look at www.roofbox.co.uk. They were quick and helpful when I bought a box and bars a few years ago.
