Simple valet question - Marc
Morning all. What methods/products do people on here employ for giving carpet mats a good clean/scrub.

I don't want to go to the expense of hiring a wet vac but don't think the readily available foam aerosols actually clean the dirt out...

Thanks

Are you trying to remove stains? If so then you'll need a wet vac of some sort.

If not, then use a stiff brush on the carpet whilst hoovering it out, this just helps get the dirt out of the pile of the carpet.

Basically, anything with "carpet shampoo" on the label should work for you. What will prevent it working well is not removing as much dirt and dust as possible from the carpets before applying the cleaner. Beat, brush and vacuum the carpets several times then apply the cleaner with a stiff brush working it over several times and wiping the muck off with a damp cloth rinsing several times.

put some carpets mats over the muck
if there is a hole in the carpet
glue them down
ideal for a high mileage clonker thats been around a bit ;-O

removable carpet mats come up like new with a jet washer..if you cant lend one take em to the jet wash at a garage in a bucket
Simple valet question - Kevin
Won't they fit in the washing machine?

Thanks for the replies. Main dealer let me down. Asked him to shampoo the mats as they were a bit grubby - everything else - seats, carpets etc were perfect. Picked vehicle up and realised later they hadn't bothered valeting the interior at all (although the exterior was gleaming with waxed tyres etc). Not going to bother complaining to the dealer as I've had "service" experience with them before and the car itself is fine.

Frankly I'd rather do it myself. So far I've used a can of foam valet and a nail brush but the mats are still not clean as such. Might just get the Karcher out on them this weekend.

A pressure washer will just blast the dirt deeper into the pile and damage the backing. Stick them in the washing machine (unless they are expensive lambswool) at low temp with a biological detergent.

Done and spun in 20 minutes.
