I can get rid of the creak with a liberal spray of WD 40 but it comes back within a week or so.
Can someone please tell me what it is that may be actually creaking please. I lay under the car today and can hear it but can't actually isolate it. There only seems to be so much that actually moves when you bounce the car up and down but I still can't work out what it is!

got to be a mk1 punto
last time for me it was the radious arm bush
a recon arm is £36 from a factor plus deposit for the old one
you dont even need to bleed the brakes when you do one of these

My 1999 hlx (new model) did the same. Its the design of the main pivot bush for the rear swinging arm, the moving rubber sides of the bush rub against the metal bracket. I used a combo of wd40 and grease to cure for about three months. Don't use oil as it will damage the rubber bush in time.

Thanks John
Where is this on the vehicle?
What should I be looking for?
|
is it the joint/bush just to the front of the rear wheel?
|
These joints (one each side) are to the front of the rear wheels, follow the trailing arms frontwards from the rear drums to where they attach to the car. Pop your head under the car just in front of the rear wheels and look up! If you get someone to push down on the boot on the lid you should "see"/hear the creak

Melt some lard or goose grease in the microwave and use that, this should last longer and not affect the rubber like petroleum products ultimately will.

Thanks will have a look tomorrow and report back.

Squirted some Halford's spray grease on it and it's shut up for now.
