Having just arrived at work, i went to put my drivers side electric window up and nothing happened. Not even a buzz from the motor. Does this mean the motor has gone? Is it just seized? Can it be freed or is it a new motor job?
|
Hi there, Remove the door panel and check if you have at least a 12 volt supply to the motor when operating the window switch. If so, it is likely that the motor is gone. If very low voltage or zero, then it will be else where. Hope this helps, Cheers, Graham.

The window has been working fine until today, im thinking it must be the motor. im stuck at work till 11pm so i'll have to check it 2moro.

If you hear no clicks or buzzes its unlikelky to be the motor. More likely to be the switch or the wriing (where it enters the door is favourite)

the switches do fail on these
not dear from ford (at least they didnt used to be)

I thought it may be the switch but i swapped it with the one on the other side. It still didnt work. Although the passenger side switch has a black casing and the drivers side is red casin, im presuming this would have something to do with it?
|
The only noise i hear is the switch clicking when i press it other than that there's nothing.

you have me confused now
i have visions of the mk3 being a double switch at the drivers side just above the tray in the door, the passenger side same place but a single switch?
if this is the case then you cant swap them around
or are they on the dash and both single switches?
if so yes swap them round
as i say im confused now
i also have a vision of a mk4 escort in my head where the switch is by the door pull
time to go home me-thinks

The switches are at the bottom of the centre console in front of the gear stick (with the boot release switch). Swapping them didnt work, so could is it the switch or something else?
|
Good chance switches have gone, common on these and often pack up together.
Check for 12 volt supply to switch,if you have a supply its the switch

Ive tried swapping the switches around and they still dont work though, or would this be the case anyway?
|
Sorry, should have said,Good chance both switches have gone.
That and cables fraying in the door post rubber, though that usually blows a fuse
