I have a 52 plate zafira 2.0dti. one of the dashboard lights keeps coming on and when it does the engine is limited to 2500/3000 rpm and is very slugish, I think there is no turbo when this happens. the light is a picture of a car with a spanner inside it not the engine fault light. Any suggestions?

Yes I suggest that a picture of a car with a spanner inside it is an engine fault light! ;-0
Its got an intermittant fault, logged an error (thats the light) and gone into limp home mode (to prevent damage).
It needs a code reader attached to it to see what error its logged.

According to the handbook the light refers to the imobiliser and other references to engine faults I have seen refer to the engine fault light which is an engine shaped light however I know this must be an engine fault as the engine does go into limp home mode.
I have taken the car back to the garage I bought it from and they plugged into the management and could find no error so unless we can plug in whilsty the light is on is there any way of finding what the fault is?

In order to understand what's going on, the best thing you can do is take the car to a garage with Tech2 - more than likely, the only garage to have this will be the Vauxhall dealer. Get them to read the codes from all systems, and use these ***as a starting point*** in finding the fault. i.e., just because the fault code may refer to a component, it doesn't *necessarily* mean that the component is duff.
Many faults are in cheap parts like wiring, connectors and vacuum pipes rather than in expensive parts like ECUs, and can be tracked down using a logical method - don't let the garage just poke and hope. The trouble code should be used to narrow down your search for the fault, not, as some mechanics incorrectly use it, simply to tell them which component to fit a new one of, enabling them to put your car back in the car park, and let them do some more lucrative servicing.

The spanner light is indicating an emission-related fault. There is a fault-code stored - if your garage actually want to find it.....?

I rang my local vauxhall dealer and spoke to a very helpful gentleman there and he told me before doing anything check the oil and make sure it is full but do it when the engine is stone cold. So I did this and this oil was not low but then was not full so I topped it up and the light has not come on yet.
So we will wait and see what happens next...
