what is the blue coating on the caliper anchor bolts? is it some type of indicator to use locktite or similar product on re-assembly, im just asking to be on the cautious side, thanks

It's stud lock, locktite which ever you call it designed to "glue" the bolt so it won't shock loose but obviously can be undone if this makes sense!!

It serves to indicate if the bolt head or nut subsequently loosens. Generally such bolts are also used with a seal which is frequently a blue colour, for example Ford use Motorcraft part number SDM-4G-9107A for their seal used with brake and suspension assemblies.

It is pre-applied thread lock, it comes already on the bolts when they are new. They usually say use once, twice or three times depending on the application. Some you are supposed to punch a dimple onto the head each time as a tally.

i sometimes use paint as a locking medium
