i need to find my way from cambridge to slaithwaite (sw of hudds) via a good old fashioned map
multimap is telling me M1 -M62 then cut accross to slaithwaite
by looking at the map it appears it would make sense to go M1 to junc 35a then A616 towards holmfirth ( so we can do the tourist bit there ) and then onto slaithwaite
would that make sense? is slaithwaite and holmfirth signpostted along the back roads?
any help appreciated

Can't help with directions by car, but if you get the chance, spend an evening in the Sair Inn sampling the output of the Linfit Brewery. Give my regards to Enoch's Hammer (8% by gad!).

That's the way I'd go. Not too many signs for Slaithwaite, but with a navigator to read the map you'll be fine.
If you get lost, remember it's pronounced slowit. - with the ow rhyming with wow.

right slowit it is....lol
is it worth stopping at the last of the summer wine place sinse we're close? just for a sticky bun n tea

steveo3002 your way is near perfect but be warned it is indeed easy to get lost
the signposting in that area is pretty dire

Some good driving roads round there - Holmfirth (last of summer wine) isn't too bad - probably worth having a tea in Sid's cafe if you get a chance. Wouldn't do any tour buses though, you'll have more fun driving yourself about. Best place to park is the huge car park near the Co-op although you can often get parked near the river between Sid's cafe and Norah Batty's house.

You've got two options from Holmfirth - best way is to go over the river (with the Last of The Summer Wine cafe behind you) get to the traffic light crossroads and turn left, then after about three quarters of a mile turn right. From there on its probably about 3 to 4 miles [but don't quote me on that], before you get to a pub where you turn right. Then follow the road into Meltham, continuing straight on for about 5ish miles and you will then get to a right turn signposted Slaithwaite [Varley Road]. Straight down the road, straight across at the bottom.
Welcome to Slaithwaite, from an ex-local. You MUST try the chocolate shop for a drink and snack before you leave.....

Although Holmfirth is known as the Summer Wine village, various locations are used, including Marsden, up the Colne Valley from Slaithwaite. Worth a visit, including Tunnel End (Huddersfield Narrow canal /Standedge Tunnel portal centre).
I'd probably come off the M1 at J38 as I'd be bored by then and it's a long way round via the M62 though probably not much difference in time.

If you get to Holmfirth and have an hour or so spare, go out of the village towards Holme and take the road up to where you can see the radio mast which is Holme Moss. Up there is a car park with a view over Huddersfield that will lift your spirits.
This road is also a great road if your are on a motorcycle,up to the top and down the otherside then join the Woodhead Pass. Fantastic !

dont come down the other side in the dark though with your boot in the floor
there is a big kerb and a 90 degree bend halfway down
nearly caught me out coming back the scenic way from wales one night
fair frightened me
nearly copped for the cottage at the bottom as well
but thats another story
