Does anyone know if the new millers sport 4 has the same pump lubricants as the old diesel plus?. Thanks
|
I dont know though I would guess not based on that IIRC there were issues with Plus in some EuroIV cars with particulate filters, I assume the "4" in the new version relates to EuroIV and indicates that it is OK in such vehicles.
Just surmising.

Thanks Cheddar, just that i was using the old stuff, and thought i'd give the sport 4 a go ( cant notice any difference actually ), only used the old stuff cos of the pump lubricant though. Its a 2.0dti vectra by the way, and the pumps are very dear, hence me using it.

Exactly the same reason I use it my 2005 Mondeo TDCi which is one of the last Euro 3s. I tried the Sport 4 and it didn't seem as smooth so I've gone back to the Power plus.

I've just started using Millers Diesel Power Plus in my Astra 2.0DTI for the same reasons - i.e to (hopefully) increase the life of the fuel pump.
But my local supplier has stopped stocking Diesel Power Plus because of the potential damage it might cause in euro 4 diesels. I asked Millers if Diesel Sport 4 was safe to use in euro 3 engines and got this reply:
Hi, yes quite safe to use in euro 3 engines. Eventually we will have
just Diesel Power Sport 4, Diesel Power plus is to be phased out.
So Power Plus is to be phased out, and we (euro 3 owners) are being forced to buy a more expensive product. Doesn't seem fair to me!

Smithers, did they say it lubricated the pump as good as the old power plus?
|
|
I would assume that diesel power plus is still okay in Euro iv cars that dont have a DPF like my A4 TDI 140.
|
I have used the 'old' Miller's Diesel plus in a Euro 4 diesel for the last 3 years and it just passed its first MOT with no issues. Perhaps I was lucky?!
|

Not sure if my Peugeot 306 HDi is what would be called a "Euro 3" type engine, but I'm guessing it may be. Anyway, my local car spares place has also stopped selling the old Miller's in favour of the new. When I commented on this I was told, "Yeah, much better product all round." I have to say my car now seems to run better than before - more poke, less smoke and a greater willingness to rev beyond 3,000. I haven't yet checked mpg, but it certainly doesn't seem any worse and I suspect may be marginally better (or is it the warmer weather?).
|
CP. I raised the question of the relationship between temp and fuel consumption some time ago and was told that MPG improved with an increase in temperature and I find this to be the case, to the tune of about 4 mpg between depths of winter and heights of summer.

I didn't realise any Euro cat 4 disels had been around this long ??

SFAIK Diesel engines had to be Euro 4 compliant from 1 Oct 2004.
|
I think the power plus in only bad for DPFs, not all EU4s have DPFs.
I think it was the lubricant or anti--scuff type additives in the Power Plus which made it unsuitable, so I assume Diesel Sport 4 doesn't have these, especially as this is the only claim missing off the bottle. I have a EU3 but have used the Diesel Sport 4 (not Power Plus) and could only tell the difference if I double-dosed.

The MOT diesel emissions test is the same for all diesel cars registered from 1st August 1979 onwards. (They only differentiate between turbo & non-turbo) Its fairly easy for most modern diesels to pass it whether their particulate filters are working or not!
|
How do you know if your engine is one of these Euro 4 jobs and what other sorts are there? I hace a Kia Sorento 2.5 Diesel 05 plate.

I think, on an 05 plate, it must be Euro 4 compliant, as it was manadatory from Oct 04, see my earlier post. It doesn't mean it has a particulate filter - there other ways of complying!

Although Euro 4 diesels were available from 2004, it was not mandatory until 1st Jan 2006, My 55 reg (sept 2005) Mondeo TDCi is Euro 3.

There was no mention in the actual e-mail, but they did send me the Technical Data Sheet for Diesel Sport 4.
Stated user benefits are:
Better than new performance
Features a unique combustion efficiency improver and Cetane booster
Improved throttle response
Protection of fuel system components against wear, with specially added lubricity enhancers. <<-------- Think this answers your question. ;)
Detergency for prolonged injector cleanliness.
Engine smoothness, noise reduction and fuel savings confirmed by users
Reduces emissions
Fuel system corrosion control.
Prevents fuel from ageing

Got this response from Millers:
Hi Martin, the new formulated Sport 4 has the same proportion of "lubricity additive" as the old Power plus had. PPDS supplied.

Hi,
Wonder if you can tell me if the Diesel Power Sport 4 fuel additive has the same amount of ?lubricity additive? as the Diesel Power Plus product.
Thanks,
Martin Carson

Thanks guys, puts my mind at rest.

Ah, it might have the same proportion of "lubricity additive" though is it the same "lubricity additive" ?

Cheddar, explain please, you can't just throw a spanner in the works.
|
|
I agree with Cheddar, it sounds more like marketting piffle, when you analyse and break down the claim to key points, it means nothing.

Well you asked in your OP " Does anyone know if the new millers sport 4 has the same pump lubricants as the old diesel plus?. Thanks"
However Carse asked Millers to confirm whether "4" has the same proption of lubicity additives as "sport" and not whether it has the same additives.
If some Euro IV cars should not use "sport" due to particulate filters it could be that the components have been changed in "4".
|
|
Yes, and anti-wear additives which prevent damage, a lubricant just reduces friction.
|
|
Well i just hope whether its lubricating or helping to reduce wear ( same thing as far as i can see ), the new 4 will still help to prolong the life of my VP44 pump.
