Although I've been happy with my local VW main dealer (Heritage at Weston-super-Mare), I am considering having my increasingly elderly 2001 1.9tdiPD Passat serviced by an independent specialist. Can anyone recommend one within thirty miles of Bristol? The only one I've visited in Bristol turned out to be a bloke in an office who told me they 'take away the car to be worked on off-site'. I don't think so, no thanks! Is the higher price charged by the main dealer a price worth paying for peace of mind? Truth is, I probably still think so.

I have no experience of their quality of work & I can't even remember the company names (!!) but there are two that spring to mind. One at the top of Red Lion Hill in Knowle (A37) & one on the Bath Road (A4) in Brislington just up the road towards Bath from Toy R Us & Halfords.

Thanks, but the huge stampede of recommendations so far (NOT!) shows that I'll probably be trundling back to my main dealer again.

I can recommend VW Audi Cars of Bradford on Avon, 01225 867708 (no connection); I go out of my way to use them for the private VWs in the family.

Oh well, after twelve days of this post on here and not many suggestions, looks like there is a business opportunity for a decent indy VW business in Bristol area! (with thanks to JohnM above).

I've used Graham Batt before:

Seemed fine, and looked like a well run workshop - large, with all the right gear. Very close to Temple Meads station too. Worth a go?

Not far from Weston, a friend takes a mid 90's GTi there, they also have a large forecourt selling mainly prestige cars in Winscombe.
