Thinking of getting a 320d, can anyone tell me when the common rail was introduced, which ones had the turbo probs, and would the direct injection be better or worse than the cr, thanks

All BMW`s since 1993 are fitted with chain cams, probably the most reliable engine to look out for would be the 136 bhp engine, which was extremely reliable. The model that had turbo problems was the early 150 bhp models from September 2001 with the 5 speed gearbox. Would need to check out the service history as most of the problem turbos were replaced by BMW and an upgraded turbo then fitted along with an ECU update , which rectified the problem.
