Water Stain on car seat - Help! - Slightlyfatdirector
The sunroof leaked in my wifes '99 Fiesta and the resultant water on the seat has left a stain.

Proprietry cleaning products have done nothing to shift it so I am wondering if there is a solution.

It really looks terrible and implies a stain of a far more dubious nature so we are keen to get it removed.

Any ideas?

you'll need to clean the entire seat rather than just concentrate on the stained area. Spray on some foam upholstery cleaner and scrub it in with a scrubbing brush. Wipe it off with a damp chamois and allow to dry. It may be necessary to repeat this a couple of times to get it back to how you want it. You'll then need to do all the other seats!

Just used Autoglym's Upholstry cleaner on SWMBO's car - it got rid of a rather dubious dog related stain with no trouble but took some scrubbing. Seats have come up clean. Not the cheapest but Halford's are (were doing last week anyway) 2 for the price of three car care related products, bought the Autoglym stuff on that basis and makes it less of a wedge....

The sponge underneath will either still be damp or soiled. Chances are that it will take yonks to dry out until the sun heats up a bit.

I agree - the secret is to clean the entire seat, not just the affected area, wiht a decent foam cleaner. My CMAX seating is particularly prone to waterstaining - the seat material Ford uses seems to stain very easily. This combined with the lack of protection of the seating from rain resulting from the body shape and door opening has been an ongoing problem with the car - At least that's what i'm telling everbody who remarks on the curiously stained front seats.,

If you over wet it it will suck up scummy brown thingy stuff from the sponge underneath so the secret is to use foam spray sparingly.

As has been said, clean the whole seat. First you need to loosen the dirt, then rinse it. You must do this evenly as otheriwse, getting the seat wet in one place more so than another will simply give you a tide mark somewhere else.
Use a water compatible hoover.
Better still, ring a few valeting firms up and pay £20 to get them to do the work for you. You would prob spend that in cleaning foam anyway!

Many thanks for suggestions. The problem is that the water stain is not like a dirt stain and all sorts of elbow grease and (mild) proprietary clearers have had very little effect.

I think the idea of going to a scrap dealer might be the answer but I like the idea of a valeting company.

I will report back.

Cheers!

Good luck, I think a valeting company will do it, they should be able to soak the whole seat and then suck the water back out and leave it to dry naturally, this approach normally works.
