Hi there local yokel. Blimey !!! It was a 1993 model as well. Worth £350.00 tops to me. I bet the seller could not believe it either. Cheers, Graham.

They are great little cars for the period, and should last well if cared for, but I'm staggered. A very clean 95 405 TD estate with 98k went for £1350, which I thought was amazing, but it seems that Pug oil burners have their fans.

Personally I think the 205 shape still looks good, but I do agree I'm stuck in a Life on Mars style timewarp.

Could this be because such cars if looked after last well and can be fixed at reasonable cost?

Makes me wonder what the wifes 405 GTX TD estate is worth, very nice condition 93K and plenty of history.

Hmm... last year I paid £495 for a 94M 306 1.9 SRDT sedan, now up to 126k so quite low really.

Since then it's had four new tyres, new discs and pads, two front wishbones, a suspension bush, a rear wheel bearing and an alternator... nothing unexpected but a fair amount. Runs really well now though.

Unfortunately (I didn't check at the time but pretty much knew from the standard of the repair) it's a written off and repaired Category C but it's very presentable indeed from 20 feet away.

If a 93 205 is worth £1,650 then it looks like I might actually make my money back, rather than the £300 or so I was hoping for when the time comes (thinking of an E39 next, which is also what the previous owner of my car traded it for).

>>it's a written off and repaired Category C>>

I have a pal who runs a long established vehicle bodyshop - many of his customers buy back their written off cars and he restores them to an excellent standard.

They save a lot of money even with having to meet the repair costs and he is able to obtain a better profit margin than that provided by insurance companies' current hourly rates for standard work.

Maybe so; my point was that the standard of the repair to my car is such that, whilst it clearly has been repaired, no insurance company would have signed off on such a repair.

Therefore the issue was whether the repair was to the salvage vehicle or whether the car had only been insured third party and then repaired on the cheap (but not recorded).
