In a nutshell.... None of them.

Your car will use one of a bunch of Renault specific K [and possibly L] line languages depending on make of ECU.

OBD-I and OBD-II are American market protocols. About the only thing that used any of them over here was a mid-nineties Volvo.

EOBD was a group of EU-standardized protocols that cover only some emission-related functions. There are similarities to some of the OBD-II protocols but that's about the only connexion.

EOBD was phased in slowly through the late nineties and was supposed to be mandatory on petrols by 2001 and diesels by 2005 - yeah; right!

There's dozens of aftermarket scan-tools that will get into most of your car's ECUs. They start from about £1000 for a very basic one.

For full coverage of nearly everything to somewhere near dealer level costs around £50,000 and another £8-10,000 a year for access licensing and updates. Add £20,000 for training courses and you're ready to go - and people still moan about the code-reading charge "for only five minutes work!"

Very simple code readers available from www.uiftech.com for OBDII, etc. Easily found on ebay, search for U480, U280, U581 or whatever.

They have their limitations, but you can at least check if there is a fault code logged and may get an indication of what it is. I have the U581, and have found it to be fairly useful.

Won't help for the Renault, though, sorry.
