Ha loved it - what made me laugh was the vain attempts of the tinny little Japanese thing to get away from the lumbering giant ! That must have made him really sick. Just goes to show it's not what you ride it's the way that you ride it ! Superbly skilful ride. !/2 a ton of 70 year old German technology shames them- Brilliant !

Oh Lovely lovely sound track, I'll be blipping me throttle all day now (mentally)

Must have been a surprise for the mimsers!

All on pushrods too! Best sound was the Ducati going by, as he parked at the end.

Reckon that was a "baby blade" CBR400RR Japanese import, despite its race rep status it is 1/3 the size of the GS and about 20 bhp down>>

Agreed!

Disagreed on the last part.
Superbly skillfully ridden without doubt, but the suspension and braking on that bike are anything but state or the ark and shame most bikes I have ridden.
As I wrote here www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=44386&...e the R1200GS I rode has fantastic handling and composure thanks to the telelever front end, and I'd be surprise if the 1150 was much inferior.
A storming bike, and as I also wrote, the only thing I found really lacking was a nice top-end rush, instead getting a flat delivery that didn't reward revs. That and the dull exhaust note I didn't mention, but I'd still give one garage space, and if I wasn't married with twin nippers to consume my time I'd have purchased one to supplement the Hornet by now!

i liked the way he positioned himself for forward vision....and kept his options open
but in fairness to the chap he overtook, at least he used his mirrors......many don't

If I lived on the IOM I think I'd drive a Landcruiser Amazon with bull bars to protect myself when someone less skillful than that guy gets it wrong on a corner when I'm coming the other way! Hell of a ride though, don't think I'd fancy it with traffic coming the other way. Out of interest, what are the accident rates like on the IOM? They must get loads of people with bikes bigger than their ability to ride them.
I'd hate to live within earshot of the road too.

I've watched the video a couple of times now (IOM vids are becoming an obsession), I still can't believe that an obese trail bike can do that. The rider must be a racer or a local. IOM is a strange place, OK for short stays but the locals are a bit strange, even the newcomers.

Well I have ridden an 1150 albeit on knobly tyres and would not say its state of the art, that guy is good rider, takes a few risks though above all knows the bike well.

The 1200 is nowhere as obese as the 1150, I have seriously fallen in love with the brand now. The bike has so much character. I pop into the Garage for something, he's (it's a he right) winking at me with those strange Patrick Moore headlights,,,,,,lurve !
What I noticed on that video was the speeds the bike was being ridden at - mostly in the upper end of the speedo, there is some serious riding skills there - and a steady cam. I have looked into getting a helmet cam, reasonable price for an all in one with a gigabytes of SD memory. Useful in a bump......
On a separate note what impresses me is the way the 1200 does it, I rode it for hours on end the other week for a full week, not a peep of discomfort from any part of my middle aged frame. It can tootle along a country lane, straighten bends on an A class at the NSL and still feel fun, it can cut and thrust (almost) like a sports bike in towns and above all it can pull comfy three figure speeds on M routes all day. An amazing bike. Aficionados on various sites prefer the 1150 though !

That's worrying.

I think they are northerners.

... yes, the scenery is stunning. And it would be if you hit it at 170.
Just in case we forget, a full lap from an expert, with laconic Yorkshire commentary and no music
