51 mondeo tddi - turbo failed - ablandy
We have one of these and the engineer has complianed of loss of power and the exhaust has left a very sooty rear end. Mechanic has had a look and thinks it the turbo. Apparently it happens at 100k and will cost at least £700 for parts.

anyone any experience on this and any idea on a typical cost? Want to brace myself for more cost on these cars! I was going to replace it soon anyway with a lease car (im fed up of these unexpected costs)

Unlikely to be Turbo failure, when they go bang they leave a smoke screen like a destroyer AMHIK! Probably MAF or leak somewhere.

thanks for that. Spoke to my engineer who dropped the car off and there was apparenty soot under the bonnet (under the plastic cover) when the mechanic checked.. Sounds like a leak of some kind.

update: was a spilt hose (a big split - about 3 inches long!). It was blowing nasty sooty stuff over the top of the engine under the plastic cover.

in the words of the guy who drives it - "its got its balls back".

which is nice.
