SWIMBO is looking to replace her car in the next month and rather fancies a Note. She is considering the 1.4 petrol version in SE spec. Anything known about the Note that she should be aware of?

I drive a 1.6 Automatic SVE model due to an Achilles Tendon injury and I find it a first class small car to drive. I have only used it around town and the MPG is 32 which is the same as Nissan say for this model for urban use. The 1.4 SE Model official figures are urban 35.8 , Combined 44.8 and Extra urban 53.3 MPG. I find it a first class drive and very well built. Auto Express have a Note on long term use and the only complaint so far is the time it takes for the 6 CD Autochanger to load CD's that is on the SVE model

Not driven one, but I sat in one in the showroom as did other members of the BackRoom. The overall thought was that the car was interesting but the drivers seat was too short to adequate support.
However as seating is such a personal thing I would certainly go and take a decent length test drive. I really like the look of the car from the outside and the inside design is also pleasing.

Interesting, my wife is looking at the Auto version. She has a Yaris Verso Auto(which she loves to bits) but it looks as if Toyota will not be importing the Yactis.
I note there is the same differential in price between the Manual SE and SVE models as the Automatic SE and SVE models; yet some of the extras are not on the automatic SVE. Also 16 inch alloys on a small car seem huge to me.

It's based on the Renault Modus. SWMBO's Modus is coming up to 2.5 years old and has, so far, been a pleasure to own and drive.
The only grumble I have is to change the front lightbulbs involves a bit of work, but nothing serious once you know what needs to be removed first. I would imagine quite a few modern cars suffer from this lack of desgin thinking so it's not just a Renault thing.
Not tried the Note myself - why not test it against the Modus, defnately recoomend them.

I think we will see if we can give the Modus a test drive over the weekend as well as the Note. She likes the 1.4 petrol Note as one of her previous cars was a 1.4 Almera which was absolutely faultless over 50k.

my 1.6 se auto note has been very reliable for the last 15000 miles. very comfortable and well put together and always does 32 around town and 42 on a run at 70mph.
very spacious too and nice design touches. definatly worth a look

Worth a look at the Modus - it hasn't sold too well so there should be some good deals. Don't be put off by the Renault badge either, this little car is actually getting some decent reliability feedback and might just be Renault's long awaited star...
....." the Modus has at last broken the spell on Renault's poor reliability, with a performance in its first two years that even some Far-Eastern carmakers might envy." (Which? 2006/07)

Although I am biased - I would second that opinion.
Actually I see them about everywere now adays - when we got ours it was one of the first in the ountry and we used to get plenty of people looking at it and wondering what it was!

Having driven both we decided that we prefered the Note, thing was we couldn't actually say why. It just felt better to us than the Modus. So cheque book in hand we approached the local main Nissan dealer. They promptly offered us £1000 less than Glass's for our p/x but offered us an "excellent" deal if we bought a new Note. 50% deposit and 3 years interest free finance-----based on us paying the full list price. We walked out. I could have understood all this if the Note was in big demand, but it isn't.
Anyway we will keep looking for a Note from an indy.
