Hi folks,
AA says this journey is 55 mins - as I'll be cutting it very fine to get my flight at 13.10, just wanted to know from "local knowledge" if there are any hidden nasties on that route at that time of day.
Thanks

I don't have any 'local knowledge' with which to assist you- sorry

So the AA route is A4, via Bath (yuk!) and over to Bristol and round the south ring road. 55 minutes is optimistic though.
Depends where you are in Chippenham, but if you're close to the M4, i'd go along to Bristol, down the M32 and catch the A4320 to the A4 at Arnos Vale. Snag is the roadworks at the junction of the A4 and A4174 at Callington Road by the new Lidl's, but you can beat that by going straight on and turning round at the traffic lights by Bathwick Tyres.
Or go along the A420, pick up the ring road at Warmley and follow the AA route from Hicks Gate roundabout. I'd definitely avoid Bath.

I'll be on the Bath Rd on the "town" side of the A420

Then personally i'd go;
A420 from Chippenham until Warmley (speed camera just after the double mini roundabout in Bridgeyate, and another in Wick i think)
A4174 ring road clockwise to Hicks Gate, which is the third roundabout
Up the hill on the A4 to Brislington, left at Lidl's and as the AA route from there.
Once you're past the park and ride, the bus lane is peak hours only, so get in the left hand lane and pass all the traffic heading for town. There's another speed camera by the Honda garage.
There are some roadworks on Cannington Road after the A37 traffic lights, but they're not too bad, a couple of minutes delay.
I'd still allow an hour though.

I'd allow loads of time for the check in once you've arrived. Queues at Bristol Airpot were pretty long last week, even at 5.45am!

Ian S beat me to it on the check in front. I'm not a frequent flyer, but the check in and security check at Bristol are agonisingly long compared to say, Geneva. Nearly missed our flight to Lapland!

Chippenham, Corsham, B3109 to and through Bradford on Avon then right onto the A366 through Farleigh Hungerford and Norton St Philip then right onto the A362 before Kilmersdon (the home of Jack & Jill) towards and through Radstock, then Farrington Gurney, then left on to the A37 then after a mile or so right on to the A39 to Chewton Mendip where you take a right towards West Harptree on the B3114, follow this past Chew Valley Lake into Chew Stoke where you bare left signed Winford (or carry on into Chew Magna and turn left on to the B3130), on to the roundabout on the B3130 where you go left towards Winford past Winford Ford, in Winford take a left sign posted Lulsgate (the old name for the airport) by the Prince of Waterloo pub, through Lulsgate, left onto the A38, 300 yrds to the airport, no traffic, say 60 to 70 mins, a really nice drive.

Thanks for all the suggestions - just found out that the meeting has moved so there's simply no way of making a 13.10 flight - I'll schlep back up North and fly from Liverpool - that'll be a real pleasure on Maundy Thursday!
