Likewise though the drivers compartment is very much intact which would suggest that cutting was not required, I wonder whether the photos have been doctored?

I am very doubtful about the caption ("no cutting") - I am sure that car was cut apart (unless Audis just break into pieces on impact).

He was really lucky, looking at the pictures again, how the whole car all around the drivers seat simply disintegrated , thus leaving him various options as to how to get out - thru the door, out the passenger side, out the roof...................

I don't know - why would separate the car front to back? Normally (well at least in the UK) the roof would be removed by cutting the A, B and C posts, but that hasn't happened.
It is difficult to imagine that an Audi (which we're led to believe is strong 'safe' manufacturer) could have suffered that much damage without seriously injuring the driver (or breaking the tree!). Maybe it was a cut n' shut!

I wonder if the properties of aluminium have anything to do with it? It does look odd; most cars I've seen that have split in half like that, had much more deformation of the surrounding shell; broken glass; twisted doorframes etc.
