xsara HDI with lots of problems, help!!! - japcars
Hi all,

I have been reading in this forum for quite a while and have often found the info very valuable.

Long story short and here are my problems now.

Basically I was ripped off by a trader who has sold me this xsara HDI 110 auto and now have so many big and little problems, so any info is appreciated.

1) Strange one but occassionally when engine is warmed up, i am limited to a rev of no more than 4k, that makes it dangerous for my missus as she does not know what to do if the car don;t go but to put her foot down, obviously being an auto this is make it worse as its not going to change up a gear to make her go, if you knwo what I mean. But this problem is intermittant.

2) Driver side e/windows was working intermintantly but now its has completely packed up. again, can you identify which wire in the plug (to the door) so I can start tracing the problem?

3) Central locking bounces up and down, as in it locks, and unlocks again. I read something like the system thinks its not fully shut and unlock itself and may be due to a broken wire or something... So.. where do I start looking??

4) both front carpets are soaked with anti-freeze and of course when i put the heater on, you can smell it too... I suspect its a leak along the heater matrix somewhere but now, how do I get into the heater matrix and look? (what do i need to remove?)

Anyway, its turned out to be a complete nightmare but the car is ok if not the above faults.. Its a diesel, its an auto and its a small hatch.. Just what I need for the wife, but can do without the problems lol

Thanks

Joe

Oh, I knew I have forgotten something and this is another big problem.

The digital mileometer display does not work (or it does not show up full numbers an things with the odd lines and dashes). I am not sure if the seller has delibrately damage it to hide the true mileage (as I was told from a good friend who calibrate speedo that its quite normal to see them damaged delibrately by car traders of have them clocked)

anyway, i think i need to change it, but can someone confirm that a manual one or even a petrol one will work?? I don;t need the whole dash but just that digital display bit, or even the whole "speedo area" if it comes to it... finding another Xsara hdi diesel breaking is almost mission impossible,... :(

Thanks

Can you get your money back? If so that would be easier.

If not join this group - www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum . Start searching and asking for pointers.

Be prepared for a long period of fault finding.

Revving a HDI above 4k is pretty pointless as max torque is around 1850rpm. However it could be that one of the sensors has failed or the EGR valve is faulty. You really need to get the fault codes read.

Central locking could even be a faulty switch but broken wires or connector corrosion are possibilities. I'd buy a Haynes book and sign up to PR NET.

An a freind had exactly the same problem with the central locking on his 306, which is made by the same company, in fact I believe the Xasra is some what based on the 306.

I wish I can get my money back. In fact.. the pink fluffy dice had agreed for the money back on the phone and i drove to his place waited 3 hrs and it was a 3 hr round trip as well then he refused to pay me in full but can offer me to buy the car back for 1k less.

What a practice that is..

I will have a look at the french car forum but thanks guys..

True mileage should be obtainable from a Citroen dealer from the car's computer. If it's a genuine trader simply get a quote for the problems to be fixed and go through the small claims court.
