I think you've mentioned that MB dealers use an (air impact?) glow plug removal tool that's pretty expensive??
Do you know of a supplier - I had it mind that Euro Car Parts had been mentioned, but can't find any such item on their website?

Yes, I'm interested too. Before long, I'll have to do some on an OM606 engine, and I'm a bit worried. If anyone knows of a diesel specialist in the East Midlands, I would be glad to farm this job out.

These tools basically vibrate the plug free. ECP were certainly selling them last year - price around £1k.
Give your local ECP branch a ring, they will probably be able to give you the name of a repairer who's bought one in your area.
For Diesel service in the East Midlands, A. B. Butt of Frog Island, Leicester, are long established and always had a good reputation. I assume they're still in business...
