OK, job done and end of competition. The track rod ends were just under £150 retail!
Anyway, they have been replaced, but unfortunately I discovered that there is also play in the inner joints in the rack, and one shock is leaking!!
This car is supposed to be MoT'd tomorrow morning and picked up by the purchaser at the end of the day. Looks like my mate will be making a few excuses!
These things really are junk - the car is a one owner 36k mile motor. Been used for mainly town work, but even so it hasn't worn well at all. I don't think the aircon is working properly either......but that will probably be left for the customer to sort out when we get a heatwave in July.. ;-)

So, l'Escargot gets the oily parcel.
Congratulations!

I concur, and the Chrysler range hasn't improved over the years. Awful, tasteless, lumbering, obese cars.
|
|
I think the German's are wanting shot of Chrysler now, aren't they? Can't make any money out of it. The best way forward would be for Chrysler to drop their existing range of cars and sell re-badged Mitsubishi's (like the DSM's in the US).

It wasn't always so though. Had a 1964 Plymouth slant six in the US in 1973 which was really a very good piece of consumer stuff, although to a European it wasn't exactly a good car. And some Dodge Chargers were quite serious muscle in the American idiom and are still sought after. Later had a Singer Vogue estate, likewise not bad at all - OK, Rootes group really but Chrysler took over while I had it.

I hope that MTC isn't reading this, he's purring happily in another Chrysler related thread as we write !

I think Chrysler made good products back in the 1960's. They went wrong in the 1970's and were rescued from bankruptcy by the US government in 1980 and I don't think they ever really recovered. They are US's version of Rover - don't be surprised if the Chinese don't buy them soon (i.e. Mercedes 'do a BMW' and flog them to the highest bidder).
Chryslers currently have an unattractive line-up of poor quality cars. I bet within 5-years a 'Chrysler' will be a Japanese, Chinese or Korean car with a Chrysler badge on it.

I was reading somewhere else on the web that the Koreans may well be interested in Chrysler as a package.

Well, Hyundai (inc. Kia) are pretty big in North America and also now manufacture there. I bet they would love to get their hands on the Chrysler dealer network. The dealers would probably be happy too - they must be having a rough time at the moment. Hyundai are also into similar markets (SUV, MPV, large and small saloons) so it would make a good fit. Not many Chryslers are made in the US anymore, so there would not be a major loss of car factory jobs. If you take a look at Chrysler parts you'll see a lot are made in Mexico - so I guess the Mexicans would suffer most!!

Ford, VW, Chrysler, FIAT, GM watch out for the Koreans. For too long the car co's have got away with mediocre product, the chickens are coming home to roost for these car co's....the Japs and the koreans continually raise the bar when it come s to quality , manufacturing logistics, dealer service etc etc ....just take ford's attitude with TDCI mondeos, crap engineering then blame punter re mis fueling....

Ford, VW, Chrysler, FIAT, GM watch out for the Koreans.
And for how long have people been saying that?

Well I think that VW and FIAT are safe from the Koreans for the foreseeable future. The US companies less so - in fact Chrysler may end up in Korean ownership by the end of the year. Ford and GM need to pull some rabbits out of hats if they are going to stay in business into the next decade.

I'm redaing it but I don't have anything relevant to add to the thread. In 13 months and 19000 miles my 300C hasn't needed any parts, and in 21/2 years and 36000 miles, neither has my wifes PT Cruiser.
I wish that my wifes previous Volkswagens had have been as reliable rather than being the wallet emptiers that they were.

Why did you pay all that money for them when they are readily available at numerous motor factors from around £55 a pair.
|
Local factors got them listed, but no one had stock and repair was needed for MoT this morning (MoT expired - customer waiting) - so main dealer was the only option.
Anyway, not my money so I wasn't really too worried.....
