Very wet Mondeo footwell - plant1983
Hello, my w reg mondeo 5dr is doing an impression of a swimming pool!

The drivers side footwell is totally soaked through (carpet and mat). Could this be a dashboard out job? I'm hoping not. Are there any common areas that the water comes in through on these cars?

I am actually really sick of this leaking car (my boot was leaking, now fixed with some bathroom sealent). But at the moment I don't have any choice and have to keep it.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Most likely problem is water getting behind the passenger side scuttle panel and entering the car through the pollen filter. The fix is to remove the panel, check the clips are all ok (they often break, new panel is about £15 or so) and refit with some butyl strip sealant on the back.

ok thanks for the tip, i'm getting it looked at on wednesday so will bring the pollen filter up because I know that was replaced at its last service in december.

I have never seen a Mk3 leak throught the pollen filter Focus yes.Are you sure its not coming through the door bottem due to a faulty inner door seal a very common design fault on Mondeo's look very closely at the inner sill trim when its been raining heavely and look for a small water trickle.

It's not the pollen filter itself that leaks but the housing for it.

Where the plasic housing sits against the bulkhead there is a foam seal, if when fitting the filter this gets leant upon it can disslodge the foam.

With the passenger side scuttle panel off you can see the housing clearly. if there is any movement in it then it will almost certainly be letting water in there.

You canremove it easily (a few nuts IIRC), clean up the underside and seal back down with a sillicone type sealer.

Wise words using some sillicone in my opinion.
When i replaced my pollen filter i stuck down the panel again with the ford bought foam seal and it took about three months for it to let water in.
Ripped the seal off clean the panel up and put a bead of good clear sillicone on and its been dry ever since.
