Hi all,
This morning, I found the driver's door mirror on my 2003 Mazda 323 hanging off by the motor electrics cable. (Looks like some kid has given it a karate chop - never mind...) The mirror, housing, motor are all fine - it just looks like the plastic joint has snapped right through.
Will a bodyshop be able to repair this, or will they just have to replace the whole mirror unit? (Seems such a waste.) I reckon it's glueable, although whether that's a good idea is another thing.
Thanks,
Sam

If the break is reasonably clean, many bodyshops will now do plastic welding to repair damage like this. The only thing is they often advise you not to the fold the mirrors in after it's been done.
Really depends on the price of a new mirror as to whether it's worth repairing or replacing.

Would need to see a photo to give proper advice. HAve you tried the scrap yards, you never know what might turn up.
On some Vauxhalls there was a choice of motorised or manual, and you could fit a manual as a cheaper option.

My Honda had a similar fate - New one painted was just under £100 and they took £15 for fitting @ Honda garage.
It took him 8 mins to get the doorcard off, take out the old and fit the new Test - Lightning - he said he does 2/3 per week - amateur might take an hour as there were quite a few screws / poppers etc to locate.
Repair might not be cheaper as labour will be greater. Getting the right mirror in the right colour from a scappy? A bit tricky and maybe a lot of time on the phone.

A number of cars have been known to park partly on the pavement around my estate.
It is rather difficult to avoid walking into them when carrying the shopping.
It has not hurt too much as they tend to fold back.
Please think of pedestrians.

I think you will find that a complete mirror for this car is about £70 ,ready painted to match the colour of the car.Not as expensive as you might expect.hth

Thank you for all your comments. It looks like a straightforward replace job is the best option, so that's what I'll go for.
(It turns out that several other mirrors were knocked off in the area that night... clearly someone had a fun evening.)
Cheers,
Sam

If no one reports it and gets a crime reference number the police will be able to misrepresent vehicle crime statistics in the area.
