Focus TDCI Confusion - adb147
How many variants of the Focus 1.6 TDCi engine are there?

I?ve seen them referred to as 90PS, 110PS, Euro III and Euro IV?. Can anybody enlighten me, please?!

Cheers.

Only 110 and 90, re Euro III i would be surprised if any Mk II Foci are Euro III though perhaps some 2004 C-Max's are. If you are buying the 1.8 TDCi 115 is more punchy and a tad more refined despite being an older design mechanically.

Cheddar, thanks for the reply. With regards the 1.6 engine, are both the 90 and 110 sold along side each other regardless of model year or are the 90s earlier models and the 110s more recent?

Best check with a dealer though I belive that when the C-Max was launched the only 1.6 TDCi was the 110 then when the new Focus come along the 90 became an option in both.

I'd say the 1.6 108 is more refined than the 1.8 115, and in terms of performance there is little between them on the road. Fuel economy is around 10% better in the 1.6 whatever the configuration. There is a more noticable difference between the 1.6 89 and 108, drive them and you'll see but either is fine for day to day driving.

There is little in it in refinement though the 1.8 is noticably more torquey at low revs which fits with the figures, 240 and 280 nm IIRC.
