mondeo key - silky
can anyone tell me the best way to get a second key for my 2000 mondeo ( 3button type of remote).
the ford garage are asking a small fortune for one .
is it the new key thats programed to the ignition system or the ignition system reprogrammes itself to the new key ????????

Your gonna need an auto locksmith or a Ford dealer to code the PATS part of the key seeing as you only have one.

Sounds like this could be late PATS 2 or early PATS 3 system, make sure you buy the correct key as well!

If you had 2 coded PATS keys you can code more yourself easy.

You can code the remote fob your self but its no use if it wont start the engine.

The key includes a chip. A good locksmith will be able to clone the existing Key. This gives you an identical one.

I had one cut without the 3 buttons, to use as the spare.

We did this last year before we drove to France. I didn't fancy being abroad with only 1 key.

It works fine

PATS 2 can be cloned but PATS 3 cannot & the well known key cutting / shoe repairers I asked said it wasnt worth them investing in the equipment to do the PATS 3 keys.
