Ford dealer has quoted me £300 for the above - this seems rather steep ! Presuming a cambelt for a Ford Focus is pretty cheap, how long is the labour - I would think 2 hours would cover it ?

Not if it has PAS & A/C.

Book time of around 2.5 hours @ a dealer rate of around £ 80 hour = £200 + parts.
Sounds about right for a dealer price for this sort of car.
Try a good local independant, probably save around £ 100 ?

I have a Mazda 323 turbo diesel, which may be a Ford Focus in disguise, and the bill for replacing the cambelt by bthe dealer was £300+vat

I recently had the cambelt and fuel pump belts changed on my Rover 420 SLDi, cost £207.00 inc vat. This was through Nationwide AutoCentre, local garages quoted ~ £350.00. They did say that if the tensioner needed changing that would be an extra £50.00. You could discuss the matter with them.
