Bullen Bros in Bury. I've used them, pretty sound, ex Smith Knight Fay engineers. Not a specialist but also sound are manchester Motor Bodies near the Apollo.
I think Borasport uses an indy VW guy in Bolton but don't know the name

Chorlton VW/Audi who are now based in Sale I believe. They have a very good reputation in Chorlton.

I've heard good things about them too (ChorltonVW) though not used them myself.
I have had some work done at Awesome-GTI who are in Irlam. They specialise more at the performance end but do servicing work etc too.

John Delaney Motors of Wood Street, Stockport are good. Not specifically a VW specialist, but good with BMW and Mercedes in my experience.
I've heard good reports about Awesome-GTI too- mate of mine gets his VW show cars serviced/ repaired by them.
