Matt is fabulous, can't win them all but he is very often funny and nearly always good-natured.
Just after Manchester police ordered two water-cannon vehicles in the aftermath of some inner city rioting, he did one of a lady holding a dripping soda-water syphon at a cocktail party, saying to a wet, not-best-pleased senior plod: 'I'm so sorry Chief Constable, I just couldn't resist it.'
