One of my collegue's seems to have lost MW reception on his car radio ('04 SEAT Leon). He can pick up FM as before but MW just hisses and crackles - any ideas?

bad earth? there may be a slight short somewhere on the car causing the MW to crackle have this on my corsa have narrowed it down to the interior lights but will have to investigate further.

Probably the aerial amplifier (in the base of the antenna) has failed. There was a post on this same subject a week or so back. Seems a common problem.

Or the special dohickie* that supplies power up the aerial lead to the amplifier, again another common VAG problem
*cigar shaped thing that plugs in the aerial lead, cant remember what its called.
