Peugeot want £1,000 for an ipod - JH
According to today's paper Peugot are offering a 30Gb disk capable of storing xx hours of MP3 music as an extra on the 407. This means that you can play a CD in the CD player (why, if you have an MP3 player?) rather than having it loaded up with the satnav CD. It doesn't explain how this might be. Maybe the mapping gets loaded to the disk.

Is this rotten journalism, scrambling the facts and only reporting half of them or are Peugot really trying to sell a £175 MP3 player for £950? I know the options list is an unhealthly place to go but that takes the biscuit!

I saw this somewhere the other day.

It's mainly a navigation system - which compared to many other manufacturs is cheap at £950. It also includes bluetooth phone and the music (MP3/iPOD?) capability, but I didn't really take in those details.
If the mapping is held on the hard drive, then maybe upgrades will be a reasonble price (not the £250+ some manufacturers charge).

The same set-up would cost about 3 grand on many other cars, so it's not to be sneezed at. I think the equipment is standard on many 407's anyway.

Drifting slightly, I had a 406 Exec as a company car a few yrs ago, and one thing I really liked (compared the the Audi & BMW's my colleagues ordered) is that there were *no* option on that model. Everything that could be fitted (including met paint and turn by turn navigation) was standard.

Thanks Bill. It did seem to me that maybe this was a package including a navigation system, but that's not how it was reported.

Had a 405 Executive before, apart from electric sunroof, cruise control & autobox it had everything else that Peugeot could throw at it from the factory as standard.

If you think its expensive have a look at the price of third party car audio head units which have hard drives etc. £950 is about right.

Why is it called an i-pod? Surely, if you only listen to it, it should be called an ear-pod?
