They buy and sell cars. They are buying mine and I not too sure about their credentials and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them or knew anything about them.

Hey thanks, what does that website mean? Is it significant?

Sorry, I'm not thinking straight! I did mean to put .co.uk. The website looks cosher but because I was almost caught out by a scam recently, I am very wary.

Sorry, Yes. I think I clicked on something else.

The original poster gave the wrong link. It should have been: www.sellyourjamjar.co.uk
Anyway, this might be a case of "Danger, Will Robinson, danger ... ".
That site MIGHT be genuine, but it does look suspicious. I would not go near it without good experiences from some known sources (as opposed to stooges acting for the site). I note that the "Verisign secured" link DOES work, so I suspect that it is genuine. Still, I'd need some real proof.
In case anyone thinks I am unduly suspicious, over the last month I've come across several fake online shops, and heard from many people who were defrauded out of thousands of pounds. Naturally I reported the sites to the authorities, but weeks later they were still up and running. I even sent an email to the 'sales dept' of one, asking how much they had made from fraud, and they replied and said $250,000.

Wow! I've contacted trading standards in their local area to check them out. I'm gonna ask that they pay with cash otherwise the deal is off I think!
Looks/sounds to me like a rip off of the similar name of a firm who used to SELL cars and perhaps took P/Xs. SFAIK they never just bought 2nd hand cars. Avoid I suggest!

I don't know anything about this company (in fact I've never heard of them before) but I did notice three things:
1) There's an IMI link on the front page, but the text is illegibly small and the link takes you to the Institue of the Motor Industry homepage. There is no direct claim that sellmyjamjar are IMI accredited.
2) The proprietor quotes a companies registration number, but not the company name. You would expect to find this quoted as, for example, "Gromit Co. Ltd., trading as sellmyjamjar". Even if you check the registration number and find it belongs to a reputable company, can you be certain that it is the same company running this website? They have provided no means for you to establish this.
3) The postal address isn't complete. So what door do you knock on, or send your letter of complaint to, should you need to?
Above all, if any company wants my custom, its up to them to convince me they're reliable. If any trader expected me to do the legwork involved here to establish their bona-fides for them, frankly, I'd sooner do business elsewhere.

Part of qcar ltd (this is in the small print, took a while to find) which was first registered at companies house in December 2005.
Odd!
In the small print I presume daveyjp refers to, item 18 (Miscellaneous) of the terms and conditions says (my emphasis):
"The sellyourjamjar Site is owned and operated by qCar Limiteda company registered in England and Wales whose registered office is Cawley House, 149-155 Canal Street, Nottingham, NG1 7HR, England. If you have any queries please contact Customer Services at website@sellyourjamjar Company Registration No. 564 2653
Whereas the bigger print under Contact Us gives these details:
Victoria Baths, Gedling Street, Nottingham, NG1 1DB
Company Registered in England and Wales 2000.
Company Registration No. 564 2653
Why the same registration number but a different year of registration and address? I'm curious because it appears to make the job of determining whether a business is legitmate and trustworthy, as per the OP's question, more difficult than it ought to be.

registered office could be the accountant
but googling for qcar nottingham doesnt bring up much either.
I would be careful.
I find it impossible to believe that two posters on two sites with the exact same name, misspelling the site in the same way are not the same person.
Yeh, the original poster is as dodgy as the website!

jam jar - interesting development of rhyming slang. When did that one come in?
Gromit - registered address is often a solicitor or accountancy office and not where the company is based - small companies often use such companies to deal with Companies House documentation. A search on the Nottingham address postcode reveals a firm of accountants at this address.
Jamjar cars was it not Dixons or Vardys internet site name, they have a massive depot at the side of the M180 with hundreds of cars stored there.
And how exactly are they buying yours?
They have made me an offer based upon my description of the car. They are coming to view it and once they are happy they will transfer to money to my account and once I am content that the funds are cleared they take to car, and that's the issue Ive got, how safe it is. I have established so far that the money can be recalled which would mean I would lose the car.
