Parking, New Year's eve, Central London - Micky
I've just been instructed that I am to chauffeur some VIPs (obscure relatives) to the West End tomorrow morning. Deep joy. Are the parking restrictions lifted for New Year's Eve?

I doubt it very much. Almost certainly normal Sunday rules except in the very close vicinity of Trafalgar Sq etc.

Be warned, Westminster has a borough-wide parking restriction. There are no signs on the streets, but woe betide you if you park.

Option 1. Park on the streets and hope the towaway lot aren't working. £40 for a day's parking, and no need to feed meters etc. (!)

Option 2. Go south of the river - Lambeth/Southwark. Most residents parking doesn't apply at the weekends.

Option 3. Try the City.

I've no idea if there are any additional parking restrictions today but many (but not all) parking restrictions in London don't apply on Sundays, which today happens to be - so it's not all bad news.

Safer to park put of town and get a tube in. We normally drive to Richmond where the parking is reasonable and there are no worries.

As you come into London on the A4, a little way before the museums is a Sainsbury on your left. Turn left just before or just after that and you'll find parking meters that don't apply at those times and "resident parking" restrictions which are week time and mronings only.

Unless its changed in the last year or so, that is.

Thanks again, we ended up in the Whitcomb Street carpark, £5 for the day!

It's been a few years since I strolled along Oxford Street with time on my hands. Obviously, there is no longer a local authority responsible for maintaining the structure of the roads and pavements. Some of the wheel ruts in the tarmac resembled medium-sized tank traps.

Hence a 4X4 is essential if you live in London. :-)
