I believe this is a common fault on Polos. The metal window clips that the glass sits it are connected to the wire (that moves, causing the window to go up/down) via a pastic clip and these have failed.
I think I saw somewhere someone on Ebay advertising replacement metal parts but sods law dictates that I can't find them now!
Does anyone know if metal replacement parts exist? It's not the metal bits that the glass sits in, it's the bit that the metal clips 'clip' onto - if you get my drift.
My Polo is a 1996 P reg 3 door version.

Just replaced a polo ( T reg ) window lift mechanism (not motor) because of a similar problem.
Fairly common fault, not well made. Cheaper from the dealer than GSF, around £50 and they keep them in stock so they must get used a lot !

Failing that, I'm 99% sure there was a post on here from a few years ago suggesting popping into your local windscreen centre (auto windscreens, for example) and asking them because they always have these clips lying around because of the frequency in which they break.

Sadly no - the bits are quite different (which is odd as I would have thought they would want to share as many parts across cars ranges as possible, to save money).

I did come across a thread suggesting Autoglass (or something) but couldn't find anything on their website. Good idea about popping in to my local one - might give it a go.

The plastic clips are available as an aftermarket part, made by a company in Italy. (I have not seen a metal version for the Polo)
Autoglass have the parts on the shelf at their distribution centre.

What number do I call? The reason I ask is that I just spoke to someone using the 0800 363636 number and she says that they only sell replacement glass and definately wouldn't sell bits like that.

Ask her for the address of your local depot or look in your phonebook.

If you go onto www.autoglass.co.uk there is a section for locating your closest branch, give them a ring and tell them you need part number BPFI00002A

Sadly the clips cost £44 from Autoglass so it's not much of a saving compared to buying a new regulator for £55 from the dealer.
The reason for it being £44 is because they only sell them with the fitting charge - you can't buy just the clips.
What I need now is a) a windfall of £60 or b) someone who can get me the clips for a reasonable price from Autoglass.
