Drive times to Courchevel - Nsar
New Year will see the improbable some might say terrifying spectacle of Nsar careering down the slopes (if some snow actually falls).

Not booked the flights yet so trying to decide which is the quickest airport for Courchevel. Please note quickest, not prettiest or most interesting!

Thank you

It's OK - the prices and times of the flights have decided - Grenoble it is, even though it seems Chambery is a bit nearer.

Thanks AS - I looked on the AA and it didn't recognise Courchevel.

Anyone know where I can get a hire car - all the search engines seem to be saying no dice, but I have left it late.

This links to fast car hire, prices for a week in January range from £110 for a Twingo to £190 for a Passat estate/ Seems like a good price!

AS - that's very kind of you, thanks.
Don't suppose you know any good ski instructors in Courchevel do you? I'd prefer a blonde called Claudette but I'm prepared to be flexible on this last point....

Nsar,
Quickest airport is the Altiport at 1850! If only.
When flying into Geneva with one of the low cost operators we always book the smallest car available and hope for an upgrade. When this ploy does'nt work getting skis in the car can be problematic.
A useful link is the Skiclub of GB site where you can view dozens of webcams throughout the Alps. Registration for this is free....and contact BASS if you want lessons in Courchevel, where they run a wide range of courses.

Thanks both - I hunted around the car hire sites and actually ended up going to straight to the Europcar site and have got a rate for a 5 door golf of £150 for the week which seems to compare pretty favourably. I'll only be lugging skis around in the resort so I should get by.

Looking at the webcams and reports I think snow tyres/chains are the last thing I'll need. I might pack a brolly though!

Don't bank on it, the last time I was in Meribel, just in the next valley, there wasn't a great deal on snow in the village until the Tuesday evening until it started snowing about 18:00. Snowed all night and dumped just over a metre by 09:00 on Wednesday morning!
The ski bus drivers were most apologetic because they were running about 15 minutes late as they had to dig the buses out of the depot!!
I know we're not prepared for that sort of fall in the UK because it rarely happens but we would have been paralysed for a month.....
