New Forest to Towcester - deepwith
Am driving from the New Forest to Towcester tomorrow morning (Monday) planning to use the A34/M40 and wonder if anyone knows any major hold-ups at the moment - for a funeral so don't want to be late!! Planning to leave home around 9 am and leaving 3 hours for journey.

Depends on which part of the forest you are in but 3 hours post rush hour should be no problem, M3 should be clear by then, A34 the same, not heard of anything exciting on the route so prob be about 2 hours?
Cheers

Thanks CBG, am about four miles from Lymington so will have to negotiate the dozy students in Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst usual snarl-up, otherwise sounds okay. Just been informed I might be coming back via Brighton (transporting relative) in the evening so it looks like the M40, M25 then - oh joy and rapture! Lucky I like driving.

Oh dear, Brock n Lyndhurst, better give it another 30 minutes then, just in case, but you'll still be unlucky if you dont make it in 3 hours!
Via Brighton on the way back!!!!!!!, nasty, nasty drive at peak times, best to stay at the relies and have a cuppa or two and leave after 7, can be a fun drive when the traffic has cleared.
Good Luck

Two hours is just about achievable with no delays, no fuel/bog stops and close adherence to the speed limit. The weirdly designed junction between the M40 and A43 can take 10 mins to negotiate and the A34 is subject to knock on delays from other major roadworks round Oxford. We find it worthwhile to follow the old line of the A43 (now B430) through Weston on the Green, Middleton Cheney and Ardley rather than using the M40.

If your journey is essential allow 3 hours plus; there's still a Little Chef on the A43 just outside Towcester for a quick cofee if you run fast..

Thanks for that - useful to know of stop off before I get there - might take black gear and change there rather than spending all day dressed up. Have checked out B430 and given directions to other half.

Well, most of the journey was great - until the A34 was closed when a lorry jack-knifed and lost its load!! Fortunately we had built in time for lunch so we did without. Used the alternative to the M40, a real pleasure after sitting in traffic for hours - thanks again for that suggestion. Journey to Brighton - left about 5 - and then home were really good, Home not quite so good as young man had driven off road in the lane so have been trying to extricate his car for the past hour - have now left it to the professionals as his father arrived with his credit card.
