Replacement wiper blades - L'escargot
I recently fitted genuine Ford replacement wiper blades front and rear to my 03/03 Focus. They're superior to the previous Bosch Super Plus in all respects and only cost a mere 17p more for the set of three than Halfords' price for Bosch. Also they incorporate a wear indicator, although how that works I don't know. From now on I will stick to the genuine article.

You are so correct unless you are buying cheapos from tesco its best to buy direct from the agents my mondeo fronts from Ford were cheaper than Halfords.

Is it a gold O that is black in the middle and turns yellow (or vice-versa)?
If so, I think these are Valeo Silencio.

Yes its a black circle that turns yellow with age/use.
Dont take any notice of this though as the wear indicators on the two sets from ford i had turned fully yellow within six months.
Now on bosch aerotwins(flatblade) for my focus,far better.

I replaced VW original blades with Bosch on my Golf VR6. The Bosch were much better. I guess experience will vary.

I informed Bosch of the problems I had had with their Super Plus blades. They subsequently claimed they had carried out an investigation and denied there was anything wrong with the design of their blades and declared that they were totally suitable for my model. They concluded that it must have been the particular production date of my car that had caused the problems, i.e that my car wasn't to drawing. After that little gem I was even further unimpressed.

P.S. The problems were that the inner ends of the front blades overlapped by a good 5 mm and fouled one another in the parked position, and the outermost 10% of the rear blade didn't touch the screen in the mid-stroke position. To rectify the front blades I had to cut 4 mm off the inner end of both rubber elements. The genuine Ford blades fit (and wipe) perfectly.

Wear indicators? On wiper blades?
Surely the wear indicator is the screen itself, once they stop clearing the screen properly they need replacing.

Personally i would use bosch blades in preference to any from main dealers.

Have known local main dealers to fit spurious makes at service time, after buying from a local source cos of running out of stocks !

A pair of genuine Ford ones from my local indie Ford specialist is less than fifteen quid. I don't even bother looking at alternatives - they work brilliantly and last ages.
