Free parking in London on Sunday? - Leif
I heard that parking is free in central London on a Sunday, even where there are parking meters. Is this the case? I fancy going to the Science Museum and thought I could park in Queen's Gate, South Kensington.

Perhaps not universal and you need to check, but by and large: yes.

www.rbkc.gov.uk/EnvironmentalServices/Parking/pd_m...f may help, though it does not specify times/days.

Free to park but Red Ken means you need a mortgage to get near the parking space! (or will do soon)

It is free to park on Sundays in many but not all areas (not around Queensway in Bayswater for example). As far as I remember the museum part of Kensington is OK, but the essential thing is to read the regulations wherever you park without making assumptions. This includes parking in residents' bays, which can be banned even when pay parking is free.... be careful or it may cost you.

Thanks to everyone for your very helpful replies. The RBKC web site seems to confirm that parking is free on Sunday. Leif

Apropos of nothing that will be helpful to Leif, but may be of interest to others parking in Westminster on Sundays is NOT free. Nor are single yellow lines derestricted on Sundays. The entirety (?) of Westminster is a controlled parking area, so once you drive in, there are no more signs telling you where and when you may or may not park.

Recently I went to the Natural History Museum on a Saturday, parking a couple of hundred yards away to the south west. The parking charges stop at 1pm, so I only had to pay for 2 hours as I arrived at 11. Just check it is not a residents bay. Was not too bad at all, with plenty of free bays and only a few pounds. Will visit the Science Museum within the next few months.
