I also read that Mr Piech was fighting hard to get Porsche's top man in charge of VAG.
It will be interesting to see how this develops.

Suggestions are that he left as his decision making process was too slow. This is seriously bad for the greater good of a company in a dynamic market such as cars. I think the guy from Audi will take over initially.

The article did state that audi and skoda were propping up the sales figures within the VAG group so that may be why the audi guy got first shout.
We will never really know the reason but I would not be suprised if he also got tired of Piech's control - which is still very influential in the group. I could well imagine some of his decisions were slowed by Piech wanting to act as the control freak and vet everything (purley my specualtion but having read about Piech - he has still not let go of VAG).

there is also a slight matter of major rows over 20k jopb cuts with the unions on the supervisory board...
(Peugoet ahve the same types of problems..)
